Women in IFAA
From the Chair of Women in IFAA – Jo Healey
I started archery in 2012 really just as a support for my partner , however starting with a “jelly bow” progressing to a Bowhunter Recurve I was completely hooked and shot every weekend on EFAA classifications , I then started to see shiny compound bows and embarked on a journey where I learnt so much about all styles but Bowhunter Compound for me was a game changer , my first European Champs in Sweden was an amazing experience , everyone was so helpful and felt part of the Archery Family , as I grew more confident I changed style in 2016 to Bowhunter Unlimited and remain in that style , having shot in many countries European to World Competitions , meeting amazing people who have a real passion to see that this sport is for all to enjoy no matter what level.
Whilst I am immensely proud of the medal haul, I have achieved from European Champion to current silver medallist AFBU World Championships in Estonia 2022, UKIFAC champion and English nationals, 2023 I became world indoor champion , I also treasure those I haven’t been a medallist in – 2018 Africa Field Champs but the experience , comradery amongst us is never to be forgotten.
As new chair of WIFAA ,with support of amazing ladies on the group , we want to grow it , we want our ladies to get the most from the sport , build confidence , ask questions and in the main support each other to maintain our health and well being and become a movement that drives forward to encourage more females into the sport, I am excited to see this develop from home roots level to World level , please get in touch share ideas and as out motto says :-
“ AIM FORWARD TOGETHER “
