He’s requested a bit of help from our Family of Archers:

“Once upon a time, this was the trophy awarded to winners of the Barebow Recurve division at the IFAA World Championships. It’s lived in my loft so hasn’t seen the light of day for 20+ years. It’s mightily impressive in its way – how could it not be, being adorned with so many eagles! They just don’t make trophies like this these days.

The trophy had been donated by the NFAA back in 1971 and I suppose its grandeur reflects the status of the Barebow division 50 years ago though, in my time, the number of BBR participants at IFAA events had been extremely inconsistent and often very limited in number. The IFAA BBR division does have a rather different set of equipment rules from WA but, thanks to the rather higher profile of barebow archery these days, thanks to John Demmer and others, I imagine numbers could well rise. I do hope so.

The “magnificence” of the trophy made it extremely impractical to transport it around the globe. Back in 1996, I pointed this out to the then IFAA President Ken Rogers and it was duly replaced with a far more portable plaque. Anyway, the trophy is now permanently out of the loft and is to be passed on to the IFAA whose intention, I believe, is to secure it a place in an archery museum.

The trophy base lists the names of the winners from 1971-1996 and I have always thought it would be interesting to try and obtain photos of the winners (preferably in action or with the trophy) and any relevant information from the time of their success. Some years ago, I attempted to contact the home Associations of these winners. I am sorry to say no replies or even acknowledgements were forthcoming so I’m trying again, this time via various Facebook groups.

Please have a look at the list below and if you can offer any contact details, photos – anything, I’d be delighted to hear from you. If you’re out there, Brad Marshall, I’m still waiting to hear from you (don’t be offended that I’ve singled you out – you’re still my barebow hero).

Here are the names on the base:

1971 B.
