Even though the rules of the IFAA World Indoor Archery Championships were amended in the 2007 Book of Rules, there seems to be confusion among the participants and the organizers of the WIAC 2007 over some of the rules.
The IFAA Executive Council hereby announces their ruling with regards to these confusing issues. These rulings will remain in force until the World Council meeting in April 2008.
IFAA EXECUTIVE RULING 02/2007
Although Article IV of the IFAA By-Laws applies only to the various Field Archery Games, the following Sub-articles shall apply to Indoor Archery also: H9, H12, H13, H14, H18, I1, I3, I4, I5, I6, I8, I9, I10. Sub-article I11 does not apply to indoor archery.
- A shooting line shall be provided and an archer shall stand so that one foot is on either side of the shooting line. (Article V, J, 4a)
- Pairing of archers shall be done by the Shoot Director. Such pairing shall apply to one Round only. New pairing will be done after each round. There will be no seeding after the first Round.
- An Indoor Round shall be 60 arrows, shot as two Games consisting of 6 ends of 5 arrows per end. (amendment of Article V, J, 1)
- At the end of the first Game of each Round the paired archers shall change positions: He/she who shot first will shoot last, he/she who has shot on the left target face (bottom target face) shall shoot on the right target face (top target face) and vise versa. It will be archer’s responsibility to move his/her target face to the changed position. Targets faces may not be moved after the second Game has started.
- In the event that the two target faces are placed “over and under” the rule for the WIAC, F, 5c shall apply to the bottom target face.
- In the event that the two target faces are placed “over and under” the archer shooting first shall always shoot the bottom target face.
- An arrow embedded in the “wrong” target face shall not be counted. No other arrow may be shot.
- There is no defined shooting sequence for the five spot target. A spot may hold only one arrow. If more than one arrow is shot in the same spot, only the lower scoring arrow shall be counted. The other arrow(s) in that spot will not be counted.
- Article V, J, 4d is amended as follows: “In the event of equipment failure the archer shall inform the Shoot Director after the end is completed. The archer will thereafter have 15 minutes of repair time without holding up the tournament. The archer shall be allowed to shoot the missed arrows after the final end of that Round, with a maximum of 3 ends (15 arrows)
- An archer will only be allowed one equipment failure per Round.
Note: Equipment failure is damage to equipment that prevents an archer from shooting the bow. Such damage must be approved by the Shoot Director. Problems due to loose attachments, such as sliding pin sights, arrow rest etc. are not seen to be equipment failure and the archer must adjust/tighten these (if allowed in the style) while standing on the shooting line without holding up the tournament.
